Kiel

Located on the shores of the Baltic Sea, the city of Kiel is the State Capital of Schleswig-Holstein. The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is some 90 kms away.

Kiel has a population of almost 250,000.

Kiel is an important transport, infrastructure and trading centre on the Baltic Sea. The Kiel Canal, which connects the North Sea with the Baltic Sea, also opens out to the sea at Kiel.

In 1972, Kiel was the venue for the Olympic sailing competitions.

Kiel is home to a number of shipyards as well as other industries. Kiel is also an established base for the provision of services. The harbour located direct in the centre of the city is a significant factor in the economy.
